spring 2013 shoe cravings: open-toe booties

Open toe boots aren’t new to the game. A handful of seasons ago they were the raddest thing to happen to footwear - once people got over the idea of an open boot that is - trust me I know, I was designing them. But since, like anything else in fashion, their shining moment has been dulled thanks to laced up booties, pointed toe booties and more classic silhouettes. People moved on. We moved on... (I’m pretty sure at some point in time when I was obsessed with closed toe boots I ridicule the open toe as dated and lame.)

But now, like trend clockwork, we’re coming right back to it and I’m eating my asshole-ish words.

This Spring 2013 season, the open toe bootie is the comeback kid and if we're giving credit where credit is due - lets say thanks to Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing. The boot popped into Balmain's Resort 2013 and Spring 2013 collections looking more bad ass than ever. Last time around, it was simple with a topline that landed around ankle and generally was accompanied with a platform. The reincarnate rendition takes on the over-the-ankle shaft that has become oh so popular due to amazing styles like Marant's Lazio (I’m sure there’s more knock offs to come), a single sole and a skinny stiletto heel. Clean. Effortless and stylish. The perfect companion to the robust Resort and Spring apparel silhouettes I’m such a huge fan of.

2.0 really is always better.

I’m officially hooked. Or re-hooked. Now I just need to get my paws on a pair. Too bad Balmain's price tag is about the same as a mortgage payment.

  3. I cant get enough of the balmain. The only thing about open toe boots is that you have to be in a place where weather permits you to wear it. Love them nonetheless.
